This road cycling route from the Costa del Sol into the heart of Andalusia is one of the most rewarding rides you can do from Fuengirola. It takes you away from the coast and deep into a landscape that few tourists ever see on two wheels.

You start at Terral Bike Shop and head inland straight away. The roads are smooth and the scenery changes quickly. Within minutes, the sea disappears behind you and the mountains take over.

The route passes through a string of authentic white villages. Each one has its own character. Coín, Alozaina, Casarabonela, El Burgo, Yunquera, Guaro, and Monda all appear along the way, and every stop feels like a step further from the everyday. You will find fresh coffee, friendly locals, and the kind of quiet that only exists far from the coast.

The highlight of the ride is the Sierra de las Nieves cycling experience itself. This UNESCO Biosphere Reserve sits at the heart of the route and delivers some of the most breathtaking views in southern Spain. Ancient Spanish fir forests, dramatic ridgelines, and clean mountain air make this section feel truly special. There is nothing quite like it on the Costa del Sol.

This is a hard route. It demands commitment and strong legs. But riders who push through find something rare — a corner of Andalusia that rewards every effort with scenery that stays with you long after you get back to the coast.

The descent back towards Fuengirola is one of the great rewards of the day. Long, smooth, and fast — with the Mediterranean appearing on the horizon as you drop back down to sea level. It is the perfect ending to a big day in the mountains.
