The Province of Málaga in Bikepacking Mode

The province of Málaga is one of Spain’s most mountainous regions, boasting a remarkable 27 different forest types across its varied terrain.
TERRAL BIKE GROUP
That diversity of landscapes sets the stage for an unforgettable bikepacking adventure, and we’ve crafted a spectacular route to explore it.

Stage 1: Fuengirola → Ronda

We kick off in the vibrant coastal town of Fuengirola, then head inland toward the Serranía de Ronda. Along the way we traverse the Sierra de las Nieves Biosphere Reserve, passing through Coín, Yunquera and El Burgo, and climbing the iconic passes of Puerto de las Abejas and Puerto del Viento — finishing the day in Ronda.

Stage 2: Ronda → Ronda (Genal Valley Loop)

From Ronda we loop through the stunning Genal Valley — one of Málaga’s most beautiful (and challenging) areas. Short, steep ramps greet us before we exit via Alpandeire, descend to Jimera de Líbar, pass Benaoján and Montejaque (via the stunning cave entrance of the well-known Cueva de la Pileta) and return to Ronda.

Stage 3: Ronda → El Chorro / Caminito del Rey

The third stage brings us toward one of Málaga’s most visited landmarks: the Caminito del Rey. On the route we’ll pass through the unique village of Setenil de las Bodegas (famous for its cave dwellings) where you might stop for an aperitif.

Stage 4: El Chorro → Antequera → El Chorro

In this loop we’ll incorporate the city of Antequera and the natural wonder of the El Torcal de Antequera. From there, we head back through Villanueva de la Concepción and a demanding stretch from La Joya / La Higuera down to El Chorro again.

Stage 5: El Chorro → Fuengirola

In our final leg we’ll cross the entire Guadalhorce Valley, then skirt the border of the Sierra de Mijas with spectacular views of the Costa del Sol. We’ll ride through Mijas and Benalmádena and finish along the coastal strip—bringing together days of mountain landscapes, gravel tracks, and coastal pedals.
